Wanted: Pastors

The supreme need of this hour in the Church of Jesus Christ is not for more Apostles who will provide visionary leadership, nor for more Prophets who will speak the Word of the Lord with unction and anointing. We do not need more Evangelists to reap the harvest or Teachers to explain the truths found in the Word of God. No, what we desperately need now is the recognition and release of those who are called to be Pastors.

Pastors

Until the Pastors
are understood,
identified, and installed,
the church of Jesus Christ
will remain
at a standstill.

While we are (slowly) coming to understand the ministries of the Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, and Teacher, very few understand Pastoral ministry and anointing. Until the Pastors are understood, identified, and installed, the church of Jesus Christ will remain at a standstill. Apostles will network and try to release the five fold ministries. Prophets will declare the heart of God to His people. Evangelists will continue to reach the hurting and the hungry. Teachers will go on explaining it all to all of us. But there will be no real revival, no real lasting fruit, no real move of God's Spirit. Nothing of any substance will happen until the Pastors come forth and take their rightful place. Not as those who conduct services, lead the church, and perform all of the official "minister" type things for a local body of believers. No, I am not referring to what we mistakenly call "Pastors," but to Pastors in the true Biblical sense.

Vacation Vision

Several years ago while I was on vacation I visited a church service. As soon as I entered the building I felt a tremendous pressure, so much so that I knew the Lord was trying to tell me something. When I asked the Lord what it signified, He showed me that the church was like a huge cylindrical water tank. I was feeling the pressure of standing at the bottom of a 3/4 filled spiritual reservoir. With that the vision began to clarify. I "saw" that in that particular local assembly the Lord had brought together a group of His wounded warriors and spiritual "misfits." When He brought them together He began a work of healing, preparing them to walk in the Spirit and to flow in His end time purposes.

The Lord showed me that the tank was 3/4 full, and that each quarter represented the release of one of the Five-Fold Ministry offices in the church. The first quarter was the Apostle, the next the Prophet, the third the Teacher. As each ministry office was released, the battered, dented, sometimes leaking sides of the tank were healed. But the restoration of the tank was not complete.

The next ministry office
that must be released
if the church of Jesus Christ
is to fulfill her destiny
is that of Pastor.

The next ministry office that must be released if the church of Jesus Christ is to fulfill her destiny is that of Pastor. I could see the Pastors being released to care for the flock, to love and nurture the "sheep." As that happened, the last bit of the reservoir was restored. The tank filled the rest of the way, until it was overflowing with the life and love of God. In this overflow, those who were called to be Evangelists poured forth into the surrounding community, to gather in the harvest, to bring the lost into a church that was now ready to receive them.

Getting Ready to Receive

Why would God bring back the prodigal for whom we have passionately prayed, or release the lost we are trying to reach, to a church that is in no way ready to receive them, and has no idea how to care for them? For the most part, the we do not even know how to look after our own. When the Pastors are recognized for whom and what they are, and the office is properly restored, not only will the church become whole, but God will then send forth the evangelists to reap the long promised harvest.
